BE AWARE OF INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES In the quest for the right job for yourself there are many issues you need to consider. Most of these issues are dealt with in career orientated literature. But there are a couple of issues I would like you to take a look at. It may sound simple but each person needs to be happy in the job they are doing. I don’t mean that you have to “sing whilst you work” but that the work you are doing satisfies you such that you actually don’t mind going to work each day. Some people do look forward to “contributing to” or “participating in” their work. In reality we all need to feel a sense of worthwhileness, to be acknowledged by others around us. We commonly get that reward from our work and it leads to us being more happy in our lives. But the question is, how do I know if I will be happy in the job I choose to do ? Try and choose / get into a job that involves you doing the things that you can actually do - that is, you get to use your ABILITIES. Try and choose /get into a job that requires you to use some of the POTENTIAL that you have - potential that you may not yet be aware of. (this requires an individual to actually listen to others who are in a position to recognise the potential abilities you may have) Ever heard anyone say something like “gee your good at...” and to you its nothing special - maybe it is ! Recognising these allows you to develop different areas of your everyday work tasks and keep you interested in it. And lastly - try and choose / get into a job that allows you to learn some new SKILLS and develop some you may already have. A great way to feel like you are achieving something at work is to help someone else to develop / learn a new skill. Remember. Each person has a unique set of abilities, potentials and skills. Consider yours and it may increase your chance of finding the job in which you are happy or it may help you enjoy the job you are already doing. |
