| CHOOSING YOUR COURSE FOR 1998 At this stage of your final year of schooling there are many things that need to be done so that you have the greatest range of options available to you in 1998. You should read the UAC,QTAC,VTAC, TAFE etc Guides that all final year students receive. But don't just read it, you must make notes of some of the possible courses that interest you (irrespective of the location of the course or the level of course- degree, ass.dip etc.). Because you are "on the net" you can easily go and investigate the institutions, the course details and accommodation. Try the site COURSES of STUDY as a beginning. Next, talk and listen to suggestions and comments made by your Careers adviser, Parents and Friends. Listen to what is said but realize that you have to take responsibility for your decisions and you are the one that has to do the study and the career that follows. I have found that informal discussion between some of your friends in the presence of a careers adviser has been very beneficial to senior students - simply throwing around ideas and getting different view points. Do remain friends with your parents as they really do want the best for you. If they suggest you can do anything you want and leave it up to you - they simply are saying that it is your responsibility to choose and they will support your decisions. They know that the path you choose now is only the beginning. Check with the school careers adviser to make sure that, for the courses you are considering, that you satisfy any requirements including interviews and portfolios and that you are aware of any scholarships that you are eligible to apply for. See SCHOLARSHIPS for some of these. |
